Liquid Waste Management at the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Padjadjaran

All activities at the Biomedical Laboratory in the Faculty of Medicine at Universitas Padjadjaran (Unpad) generate a certain amount of liquid waste. Waste from laboratory activities is processed by the Wastewater Treatment Plant (IPAL) located in the Unpad Teaching Hospital building, now known as the Koeswadji Building, Jl. Eijkman No. 38, Bandung. This IPAL system treats the laboratory liquid waste before it is discharged from the building. The IPAL is designed to process the quality of the liquid waste to ensure it is safe for the environment.

The Faculty of Medicine also has a water treatment system for waste originating from restrooms, toilets, prayer rooms, and the cafeteria. This non-infectious liquid waste is channelled to a drainage system leading to a septic tank, where it is treated using a waste treatment system separate from the IPAL designed specifically for laboratory waste.
